Bernadette 'Bernie' Cranley died on Saturday as a result of a crash near the entrance to the Ulster American Folk Park

An 82-year-old woman died after an accident against the A5 in County Tyrone.

She was Bernadette Cranley, known as Bernie, from Lifford in County Donegal.

The car she drove was in collision with an SUV on the Mellon Road between Omagh and Newtownwart around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman in the 70s, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital with the ambulance.

A bouquet wrapped in plastic film with yellow and white flowers is held vertically with stones on the side of the road. In the distance there are some orange cones on the side of the road.

The road that was closed for a few hours has been open again since then, the police said.

Daniel McCrossan, member of the West Tyrone Assembly (MLA), said tragedies that result from the A5 are “never ended”.

“I can ask our community to keep all those affected in their thoughts and asked,” he added.

More than 50 people have died on Northern Ireland's A5 Road since 2006, which runs between Londonderry and Aughnacloy.

What is the A5?

The road, which is more than 58 miles long, is a single road with track traces in some sections for most of its length.

The A5 is an important artery of the Northern Ireland Road Network.

It is also the most important north-south route in the west of Northern Ireland and establishes a connection between County Donegal and Dublin via the N2 in County Monaghan.

Last year, an upgrade of 1.2 billion was available last year.
