You do not have to be a Swiftie fan to appreciate the latest exhibition, the curator-our ERAS tour, in the Niagara-on-Lake Museum, but you can certainly enjoy the song references and clever parallels in this unique presentation of some of the museum's favorites. On Taylor Swift you will find your song texts in the entire exhibition to complement certain historical elements.

“What is interesting about Taylor Swift is how they include historical characters, events and ideas in their songs,” said Shawna Jarman, deputy curator of the Notl Museum.

“For example, she sings about artifacts from the life of her grandmother and the stories that could never be told. Or the bloodshed, the fights and tears of the great war. It gives her music all depth and meaning.”

These are topics that use Niagara's own history and are integrated in curators-Eras tour curated by Jarman, who looks back on 130 years of collecting the Niagara Historical Society by Janet Carnochan, founder of the Niagara Historical Society, to today's Curator, Sarah Kaufman. During these years, several curators have supervised the collecting of more than 50,000 points, with local, provincial and national importance unveiling a fascinating study on preservation, research and organization.

Collecting standards in the early 20th century often did not exist, although they were driven by great enthusiasm and heart.

“But it was the early collecting of these visionary members and curators who formed the basis for the collection practices of the Notl Museum,” said Jarman.

“And as an entertaining challenge, we ask the visitors to come along and see whether they can find their favorite swift song or their lyric, which are mentioned in this exhibition. They can even entertain visitors and play some of their favorite swift melodies on the Vintage piano.”
