Urenui water licks near zero thanks to the NPDC upgrade

The 18-month water pipe project from NPDC in Urenui has hit persistent leaks on the head.

Licking water has dropped by around 95 percent in previous years, and the Council is about to start the third and last phase of the pipe replacement (switching of asbestos cement pipes to PVC pipes) in the 2.7 million dollar project.

The first two phases of the exchange of urenuis water pipes are ready, and the third stage is before the start (photo/delivery)

“The pipes we replace are about 50 years old and had in history and burst – but since this work there have been no water disorders in the city,” says Sean Cressy, delivery manager for the delivery of NPDC projects.

“We can also see that the water loss due to leaks in the public network decreases far, and we expect that after this last phase has been ended near zero.

“The new pipes ensure that the drinking water supply from Urenui is in good condition for many years.”

This last work in the streets of Ngakoti, Ngapaka and Totara south of SH3 takes place from the beginning of next month (June) to the beginning of September. Road closures and Stop/GO traffic management will be available, so that the residents will drive carefully during the working period.

So far, around 3,400 m3 of water has saved the previous meetings – enough to satisfy the city's demand for 17 days.

This project is part of the NPDC investing in the amount of $ 248 million over 10 years to 2031 to remedy the installation of the district.

Notes:

  • The four public water supply from NPDC delivers around 28 million liters of water per day to almost 28,000 houses and companies.
  • The district has 800 km of water pipes, which are maintained by NPDC.
