Pacers Title Run would leave Nets as just ABA team without a NBA championship

While many are concerned about who the Brooklyn Nets is draft and/or trade for this summer, a long -time beatwriter gives insights that show how sterile Brooklyn's trophy has been in recent years.

In response to the second victory of the Indiana Pacers against the New York Knicks and before today's game from this evening, Bob Windrem from Netsdaily went with a stunning statistics on X.

“If Pacers win the NBA championship, you will be the third former ABA team to win a title in NBA, two other Spurs (five times) and Nuggets. That would only leave a former ABA team without NBA trophy: The team that won the last ABA title: The New York (now Brooklyn) Nets,” said Windrem.

On May 13, 1976, Julius Erving led the New York Nets to a Six victory of 112-106 against the Denver Nuggets to achieve his second championship title of the decade. Almost a precise month later, ABA merged with the NBA and the Nets in New Jersey were born.

Since “The Doctor” was the face of the organization, times have been hard. The networks had two chances at NBA Glory in the early 2000s when Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin fell to the Lakers Kobe and Shaq Los Angeles (2002) and Tim Duncan San Antonio Spurs (2003).

The Spurs obviously had one of the most dominant dynasties in the history of sport, while the Nuggets earned their title with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray almost two years ago. If Tyrese Haliburton and Company can close the kinks and drive their dynamics into a ring, Brooklyn would leave the only former ABA team that could not sit on the NBA world.

Windrems Post really moves into the right perspective. Brooklyn has occupied countless stars in the past 50 years, including the childhood of the 2000s, the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett-Deron Williams-Joe Johnson-Brook Lopez-era of 2010s and the short-lived Kyrie Irving-Kevin Durant-James Harden-A-A-A-A-Aer.

The networks had their chances of climbing the mountain, but it may be the only team that stares at its former ABA colleagues, depending on what June has in stock.
