Washington – The Trump administration is considering eliminating the 988 suicide prevention and the special services of Lifeline from Lifeline for LGBTQ+ young people to reduce the financing for the discretion budget for the mental health of the next year. This emerges from an internal document checked by CNN.

The preliminary memo of April 10 presents the possible plans of the administration to reduce the health expenditure of the federal government as President Donald Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Many functions of the US Ministry of Health in administration for a healthy America or AHA.

If the leaked budget draft is excluded, the 988 suicide is & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services could be rejected from October. According to the non -profit profit The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ Youth, which has been a subcontractor of the subcontractor since 2022, which has been offering young people as one of seven call networks within the subnet for LGBTQ+ since 2022.

The management and the Budget of the White House did not respond to the request from CNN for a comment.

In October 2020, Trump signed a cross -party bill that made 988 the universal telephone number to achieve the National Suicide Prevention hotline.

In July 2022, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline was launched under the bid administration, whereby a 10-digit number passed over to a lighter three-digit number. People who are looking for emotional and mental health can choose 988 for help how they could choose 911 for medical emergencies.

Shortly after its introduction, the 988 Lifeline contained a subnet for LGBTQ+ persons to connect to specialized services. If people choose 988, they will be given the opportunity to press 3 to achieve crisis consultants who are trained for working with LGBTQ+ young people.

According to a person in HHS, who worked closely with the 988 Lifeline team, there were some discussions within the Trump administration about the termination of the LGBTQ+ -S -S -Subnetzwerk of the 988 Lifeline, who worked closely with the 988 -lifeline team and who asked for anonymity because they recently received a reduction in knowledge, but hoped to do their job hold.

“According to what I collected and only spoken to others, these decisions are made without contributions by someone who is involved with the 988 team or project,” said the source and added that the leadership of the 988 team would be consulted, it would probably be recommended against the removal of the LGBTQ+ SSUBNATZ company.

“The suicide of LGBTQ youth are four times higher than others,” said the person. “There is data that show that the suicide rates in the LGBTQ community are higher. Therefore there is a special number for pressing if they come from this community because there is a critical need.”

By mid-March, more than 14.5 million people called the 988 bailouts to the Lifeline 988, transferred to a crisis contact center since July 2022. About 1.2 million of them were forwarded to the LGBTQ+ Specialized Service.

“Suicide prevention is about risk and not about identity. End the suicide of 988 & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services will not only remove the access of millions of LGBTQ+ children and teenagers – this will put their lives in danger, “said JAYMES Black, CEO of the Trevor project, in a press release.

“These programs were carried out in order to have a proven, unprecedented and persistent physical crisis of mental health among the young people of our nation with strong support in the congress and signed by President Trump himself,” he said. “We are calling for the administration to maintain their many years of commitment to the end of suicide under highly riskopulation, especially in the young people of our nation.”

Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, who worked as a deputy secretary for mental health and substance in the administration of bidges, said she fears how the restructuring of the agency could have an impact as a public health resource and other services and programs that fall under the management of drug abuse and psychological health services.

“There were some discussions and questions about whether the LGBTQ+ line will remain, and therefore I am concerned about this part of 988,” she said. It is also concerned about the 988 veteran-sub-line, which is accessed by choosing 988 and pressing 1 and the Spanish subnetwork to choose 988 and pressing 2.

Since 2022, the Federal Government has invested around $ 1.5 billion in the 988 project, including the expansion of access to services for Spanish speakers, LGBTQI+ young people and young adults as well as people who are deaf or hearty (by creating sub-lifelines or subnetworks for these groups.

Delphin-Rittmon said that she is worried about how certain personnel and financing support could be moved or eliminated for 988 under the HHS structuring.

The leaked memo notes that the budget would maintain the $ 10 million for specialized services for Spanish speakers who are looking for access to 988 services and eliminate the set aside for special services for LGBTQ+ young people.

According to the document, the budget does not include a financing of the LGB Center of Excellence, the African -American Behavioral Health Health Center of Excellence, the Asian American, local Hawaiian and Pacific Insulan Behavioral Health Center of Excellence, the Hispanic/Latino Behavioral Health Center of Excellence and that LGBTQ Youth Family support program.

“Overall, I'm worried about Samhsa,” said Delphin-Rittmon. “There were certainly many questions.”
