Deadly Drug 'Carmfenanil', which is now circulating in Santa Clara County, reported the first overdose death

Santa Clara County, California (KGO) – A new deadly drug called Carmfentanil is in Santa Clara County, say medical experts.

It is a synthetic opioid like fentanyl, but much stronger.

On Wednesday, the Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Michelle Jordan started that the district's first death was reported by Carfenanil last week.

“Carfenanil is 100 times more effective than Fentanyl,” said Dr. Jordan.

Last week a 39-year-old man was found dead with M30 pills, fake pills that look like prescription oxycodone.

“What I am really concerned – and the reason why I want people to be made aware of it is that some of the pills sold by the street may be sold with Carfenanil,” said Dr. Jordan.

Jordan said that this recent death means that the drug is out there and fake pills look real.

With regard to the treatment, Cheryl HO, the medical director of the district authority of the district for substance consumption, said that the treatment of opioid consumer disorders focused.

“We would like to be there, offer services, let them know what is being offered,” said Ho. “You know, you don't have to be perfect or come to get help. You can only be anywhere on your trip, and there is a kind of help. And therefore I think that we have really worked hard in recent years to really get our services more to meet people where they are.”

The district's opioid overdose prevention project offers free naloxone -the overdose reversal -by post to people aged 18 and over.

Dr. Jordan said her office would be alarm for all drugs that you see in the community.

“So this stack are all post-mortal toxicology reports on drug deaths,” she said, pointing out a large stack of papers to all the overdosed deaths that she has been dealing with since 2019.

Carmentanil has already been reported on the east coast and in the middle west.
