The father of a 7-year-old boy who died after he was badly burned and beaten in January 2023 in an apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire, was sentenced to life in prison for 45 years because of his son's death.

Murtadah Mohammad was charged with a second degree ruthless murder and counterfeiting the death of his 7-year-old son Jaevion Riley. According to the Attorney General in New Hampshire, he owed himself guilty in April.

When Mohammad remained guilty, he admitted that he may ruthlessly cause Jaevion's death by enabling extreme indifference to the value of his life by exposing him to abusive violence and received no timely medical help for his injuries, “said the office of the AG.

A man was charged with the death of his 7-year-old son in January in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Jaevion died on January 17, 2023, when emergency crews reacted to an apartment in Manchester for a report about a minor in need and found the boy unconscious and suffered from serious burns. He was taken to a local hospital and taken to a hospital in Boston, where he later died.

Mohammad was arrested immediately after the incident and accused of various crimes that resulted from the alleged abuse of his son, including a number of first degree attacks, two attacks of second degree, two accusations of the falsification of physical evidence and a number of risk of the well -being of a child.

According to court documents, Mohammad told the first aiders that he was in the shower when his son was injured and did not see what had happened. However, first aiders found that there was no evidence that someone could take a shower, and there were other inconsistencies in their explanation. Riley said Mohammad received joint custody for Jaevion a few months before the incident. She said she tried to report signs of abuse such as bruising to the New Hampshire Division for children, adolescents and families, but nothing was done.

“I asked for wellness checks for the bruises when he was with him, and nobody did anything,” said Riley. “The system is not only my child, but also so many children failed. And something has to be done because it is wrong. It is not. How is enough enough?”

When asked about Riley's account, a DCYF representative previously announced that it would protect the agency in order to protect the confidentiality of the children and the family of the family according to the state and federal law.
