A preliminary investigation by the Kansas City police, the Missouri police, said that the crash occurred when a Weißer Volkswagen Tiguan, who traveled to Troost, crossed south to oncoming traffic at the intersection of Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevards and Troost. The police said that the unbridled passenger of the Weißen Volkswagen had been ejected from the vehicle and brought to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The driver and passenger of the White Volkswagen and the driver of the Black Volkswagen and rear seat of the BMW were brought to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
