A 24-year-old doctor from the University of Delaware, which was killed after a fleeing U-Haul van von Newewarks Hauptstraße and was plowed into a handful of people and cars, was identified by the city police as Marina Vasconcelos.

Vasconcelos from the northeast, Maryland, was declared dead at the crime scene after the police said it was met on April 29 by a stolen van, who was driven by Gordon Turner. The 22-year-old New Castle Man faces several crimes, including two cases of attempted murder second degree.

Who was Marina Vasconcelos?

A LinkedIn profile for Vasconcelos described her as a student for graduates at the University of Delaware.

In her third year, she was in which she pursued a doctoral student in biochemistry, according to her “section” about “section” and worked on “characterization of the O-glcnacylation modification on NOD2”.

In 2022 she completed at the York College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and minors in biology and Spanish, according to the social media page.

A Udaily article published in February includes Vasconcelos and her research work on Crohn's disease, a chronic disease characterized by inflammation of the intestine by the chemical biology interface program at UD. It was found that she had already contributed to securing the financing of Crohn's and colitis foundation in order to support this research, according to the article.

She told the reporter that, according to the article, she wanted to be a medical connection that could serve “as a bridge between pharmaceutical company and doctors” in an impartial, advisory way.

“It is a role in which you need to know science behind an illness with the ability to communicate the company what doctors want to see in the clinic and see the research, and to return to the doctors as to what companies want to know,” said Vasconcelos.

According to the article, she also found her “beloved dog princess” as part of her program due to connections with a fellow student in the Chemistry Biology Interface program.

Fatal crash

Vasconcelos was one of nine people who were injured in Main Street during the crash on April 29. It is the only death.

Turner, who was also injured in the incident, was one of two people who returned to a stolen U-Haul van who was parked a lot in the 200 Block of E. Main St.

When the officers arrested the driver and passenger, Turner and another man climbed into the van and fled, the police said.

The police did not pursue the van, who drove over a curb and hit a marked Newark patrol car. The police said the men “ignored the officer and left the parking lot at high speed” and on the East Main Street.

Vasconcelos and other 24-year-old UD doctoralands, both of whom were on a parked car, were approached by the van, the police said. Vasconcelos were killed while the other suffered serious injuries.

The van then drove down the street and hit several parked cars. Six other people were injured when the van fell down the busy road around 4:30 p.m.
