Shannon Ball, BSN, RN, is a hero every day as a nurse in university hospitals.

On the evening of April 23, Ball came across a tractor-trailer on her way home, which had just come into a concrete barricade and guardrail on the I-71 in Milton Township.

Another man was already on site and had started the CPR with the driver who had no pulse and supported a 911 operator.

Ball took over breast compressions, and a soldier of the State Patrol in Ohio also came to help.

Everyone worked together and were able to regain a pulse.

“As a nurse, we are called to take care of people,” said Ball. “That's exactly what I tried to do when I stopped for this person. I didn't really pay attention. I just stopped and did what my instinct told me.”

The three -member mother said she had prayed for the victim since the accident and felt like a higher power there because she had left the work unusually that day.

“One of the other things I thought about is that I was late to go on time,” she said. “So, I really feel like I'm in the right place at the right time.”

Ball is a specialist for professional development at UH and said that she taught a class and stayed tidy tidy and then chatted with people.

Ball encourages everyone to complete CPR training because they never know when they may be called as a hero. It also encourages people not to be afraid to help others in times of need.

She said she felt a special connection to the others who were stopped that day, including this man on site when she arrived, a businessman from Cincinnati who was in the city to see his daughter playing softball.

The victim identified him as a 71-year-old man from Cuyahoga Falls. The hospital tells us that it has now been moved from the intensive care unit and his own room and improved.
