High school basketball star (18), killed by a ball that entered her family's house

A community in South Carolina mourns a outstanding high school basketball player who was killed on Tuesday, April 29, after being hit by a ball that unexpectedly entered her family's house.

Ja'niya Richburg died on Tuesday evening around midnight after a ball hit her through the window of the house of her family in Conway, South Carolina, The contribution and courier.

Richburg was 18 years old.

According to Outlets, she was a senior at the Loris High School and a member of the school's basketball team.

“With profound sadness, we announce the recent tragic death of one of our students. This event is obliged to produce a number of emotions in our entire school community, especially among our students,” said Horry County School in an explanation to the outlets. “Ja'niya Richburg, a senior at the Loris High School, was known for her lively personality and for her outstanding achievements in both academics and in athletics. We have only received limited information about your death and will continue to honor the privacy of the family.”

The school district added that “the loss of a student influenced the entire school community” and, according to the outlet, will offer consulting services for pupils and employees.

WBTW reported that Richburg was one of the most successful basketball players in the history of her high school and at the beginning of this year 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds in the shadow – the first women's basketball players who did this in the history of the program.

Richburg told the outlet at the beginning of this year that she wanted to visit the University of South Carolina as a pre-med student in autumn.

“It has always been my thing since I was younger,” said Richburg to WBTW. “I decided that because of the environment I always am, I can go far and take care of my family. I would like to imagine that I could be the best thing I could be, you know how to get through school and have people to motivate myself. I should be fine; I have confidence in myself.”
