“I'm afraid for my life: 'Residents of the Senior Complex near Jacinto City fear of security in the middle of crime

The residents of a senior living complex near Jacinto City say that a recent increase in crime has frightened them to leave their houses – and they advocate immediate measures.

According to the residents, break-ins, vandalism and even tireft have become frequent events. The Houston police confirm that 5 thefts and burglaries have taken place in the Villas in the Woodforest since January. Many residents are older people, disabled and with a fixed income, which means that the damage is not only frightening, but financially devastating.

“I'm afraid for my life,” said the resident Maria Romo. “I'm afraid I am raped or murdered – or that one of my friends does. We hardly do it as it is. We cannot afford to repair our cars or repair the damage by burglars.”

Photos that are shared by tenants show broken car windows and signs of forced entry. A resident reported that her vehicle was only stolen last week.

The Harris County Precinct 2 office has increased the patrols in the region to support the efforts of the Houston police department, but civil servants say that this is not enough.

“We wrote a special watch,” said Constable Jerry Garcia. “We have additional units that patrol day and night, but it is not enough. What this complex really needs is the security on site.”

The residents and the Constable office are now calling for real estate management to stop 24-hour security in order to protect the endangered population.

When contacting the management, the management confirmed the concerns and said that they investigate what could be done, but did not confirm whether security personnel were hired.
