Mother of the Saisd student near the campus demands patience, peace in protest

SAN ANTONIO -The mother of the 14-year-old murder victim Simon Cuevas III asks people not to take revenge in his name.

>> Parents protest outside the Brewer Academy two weeks after shooting 14-year-old Simon Cuevas III near the campus

Alejandra Cuevas made these statements to KSAT 12 news at the scene of a spontaneous protest in which the parents of the neighborhood were involved on Thursday morning.

“I don't want you to try to go out and look for justice myself,” she said. “Simon does not want them to get into difficulties or be hurt. I know that he will look down on them, and he is proud that everyone is trying to work for him.”

Simon was shot on April 16, about two Brewer Academy blocks, an alternative school in the Merida Street near South Zarzamora Street, where he attended courses.

Although the San Antonio police said that a group of people attacked Simon and then shot him, the officials do not have to make any arrests in this case.

The mother and other family members of Cuevas were part of a group of parents and neighbors who gathered near the school.

They wanted students who had planned a strike to demand justice.

When the students could not leave the building, the parents went to the campus instead.

Some sang in the crowd: “Justice for Simon! Justice for Simon!” When they turned to a number of police officers from the independent school district in San Antonio, who gathered in the parking lot.

A woman accused the officials of not going to the students and no longer do to protect them regularly.

“Where did you stop the children that day when Simon died?” Asked Alejandra Cuevas. “Don't stop our children now.”

From time to time, some students were able to see an insight into the excitement from a window on the second floor.

After about 30 minutes, the crowd began to dispel and two blocks went down to a parking lot, directly opposite a monument that was set up for Simon's honor.

There, Pastor Jimmy Robles offered words about a loudspeaker with ministries of the second chance.

Robles' church was one of the groups that helped organize the student strike event.

Robles said the idea was to create the last steps that Simon had taken again before his death.

“Then get the opportunity to actually go back to school,” said Robles. “Simon will never get this opportunity again.”

Although the event was not quite as planned, Alejandra Cuevas said that it had still brought her family a little comfort.

“It also gives me strength to know that there are many good people out here,” she said. “You are ready to get up.”

The hope of Alejandra Cuevas and everyone else in the group is that the people who killed Simon are caught as soon as possible.
