Trump axte NSA Waltz after chat group scandal appoints him as a UN ambassador

US President Donald Trump replaced his national security advisor Mike Waltz on Thursday, May 1st, after a scandal about a leak of the chat group and said he would instead appoint him as an ambassador of the United Nations. In the first major cabinet recording of Trump's new term, the President said that Foreign Minister Marco Rubio would now act as an interim National Security Advisor after Waltz's departure.

“From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in the congress and as my national security advisor, Mike Waltz worked hard to put the interests of our nation in the first place,” said Trump about the truth, as he announced the move. But the 51 -year -old former special forces officer and the Member of the Congress of Florida had lived in the borrowed time since the so -called “signal gate” scandal had broken off in March.

The editor -in -chief of The Atlantic At the time, the magazine revealed that Waltz incorrectly added him to a group chat about us strikes on the Huthi rebels of Yemen to the Commercial Messaging app signal. “I feel very honored to continue my service to President Trump and our great nation,” said Waltz in a post on X.

Trump had repeatedly offered his public support, but behind the scenes Waltz lost his confidence in signal gate, while due to his Hawkian attitude towards Russia and Iran, there were also tensions with other officials. His attitude increasingly contradicted Trump's pivot point towards Moscow when Washington pushed to Ukraine to achieve a quick ceasefire, and when Trump reopened the negotiations with Iran on his nuclear program. In the end, however, the 51-year-old former MEP from Florida took a little more than 100 days of Trump's second term, which was previously more stable in terms of staff than his first.

The Democrats will now turn up the heat of Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, revealed times that US fighting aircraft would lose goals in the same signal chat to bomb goals. Hegseth was also reported that he had shared these details in a separate signal group chain to which his wife belonged. “Now make Hegseth,” said Chuck Schumer, the Democrat of the Upper Senate, on X.

A “error”

The signal chains episode also showed that Hegseth the exact times of the campaign starts and if bombs decreased. As far as Waltz is concerned, he had previously taken over “full responsibility” for the establishment of the news chain and administrative officer, who described the episode as “error”, but one that did no damage to the Americans. Waltz claimed that he was not sure how Goldberg ended up in the messaging chain and insisted that he did not know the journalist.

Trump and the White House – which insisted that no classified information about the text chain was shared – were publicly public during the entire episode. I also ask in Hegseth and his role in the Signal Chat. While Waltz set it up, Hegseth launched times for aircraft and bomb waste dropped into the unsecured app and in a second chat shared the same information with dozens of people, including his wife and brother. The General Inspector of the Pentagon examines Hegseth's use of signal and was criticized by Democrats and even some Republicans. Nevertheless, Trump granted public trust in Hegseth.

Waltz 'shift from the national security advisor to the UN ambassador candidate means that he now has to face the confirmation process of the Senate, which he was able to avoid in January. The process, which proved to be difficult for a number of Trump's cabinet picks, will give the legislators, in particular the Democrats, the first chance of grilling waltzes about his decision, information about an upcoming US Airang Riculate for the signal.
