According to CBS News, the national security advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong reports from their roles. Both are expected to leave their positions on Thursday.

Wong previously worked in the first Trump administration as deputy special officer for North Korea and deputy deputy secretary for East Asian and Pacific matters in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

When President Donald Trump announced Alex Wong's appointment, he wrote to negotiate the top -class summit with the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“As a deputy special representative for North Korea, he helped negotiating my summit with the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un,” said Trump in a statement at that time. “Alex also directed the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to implement free and open indopacific strategy.”

At the beginning of his career, Alex Wong worked as a foreign policy consultant and General Counsel by Senator Tom Cotton (R-Mark). He also worked for the Foreign Ministry in Iraq as a judicial and anti-corruption consultant.

In addition, Wong spent several years in private law and advised Fortune 100 customers about international trade and government investigation. He started his legal career as a lawyer for the honorable Janice Rogers Brown from the US Court of Appeal for the DC district.

Why do Waltz and Wong step down?

In March Mike Waltz was inferior to incorrectly added the Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg to a signal group chat for national security officers. The chat contained sensitive discussions about a potential military strike against Houthi goals in Yemen. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, Director of the National Secret Service Tulsi Gabbard and CIA director John Ratcliffe, were among the group.

Waltz took responsibility for decay. However, Trump publicly defended him publicly, gave the incident a “mistake” and explained: “He is not fired.”

Sources announced CNN on Thursday that Waltz 'position had never completely recovered after the incident, and he gradually lost the influence with top helpers in the west wing.
