The police reaction was questioned in Victor Contreras' death examination

Victor Contreras' death raised questions about whether the police could have intervened to save his life.

According to the court documents of KFOX14/CBS4, Contreras' body was discovered by his son on April 12 in the family's house, which spent a strong smell of decomposition.

The documents describe the body in a “moderate state of decomposition”.

KFOX14/CBS4 confirmed that El Paso's police were called twice in the residence on April 5, a week before the body was found. During the first call, Contreras reported that Jaime threatened him and killed his pets.

In the second call, he told the dispatcher that Jaime was beaten and armed with a hammer.

Although the affidavit does not confirm whether civil servants asked contreras whether he felt threatened, a police spokesman later said that he was asked and denied being threatened.

In an open recording request for Contreras's autop apparatus, it was found that his body was in a “moderate state of decomposition”.

Dr. Victor Weedn, a forensic pathologist, said that the signs described, such as the smell and flatulence, indicate that contreras was probably dead for several days. “If people could smell the body outside the residence by just opening one window, the body smells quite bad, and it took a few days to get to this point,” said Weedn.

The schedule of events raises questions about what happened after the help of contreras and whether more could have been done to prevent his death.

“Body starts to break down immediately, but it's a process. It takes time,” said Weedn. “All limbs are now relaxed and are generally bloated around the third day. That comes from the microbiology of bacteriology cultures that create the gases.”

El Paso's police refused to comment on the case.
