Sheryl Crow has her say in Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan and Phoebe Bridgers

Sheryl Crow has talked about the rise of female singer-songwriters, of which they have contributed to this.

Crow was one of the greatest artists from the 90s. Her debut album alone, the 1993 Music Club Tuesday evening, is said to have sold more than eight million copies.

Now the charts are of course dominated by female artists, but when crow was at the height of her career, she was definitely in a minority.

In a new interview with Variety, Crow says: “I remember that I had a conversation with people in Grammy's board 15 years ago and said: 'What will you do to put instruments into the hands of young women?' And lo and behold, some of the greatest musicality are currently young and female.

Crow praises the women for whom she raised a path: “The caliber of writing is just so good with Chappell Roan, Olivia [Rodrigo] And Phoebe Bridgers, and these women don't just throw a lyric in the studio – they play, ”she says. There is Brandi [Carlile] and Courtney Barnett. For a long time there was a lack of women who played and sang and rock, and now I'm tickled. “

Crow has already praised Rodrigo, and the couple shared the stage more than once, including in 2023, when Crow was added to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

While she is happy that so many female singer-songwriters breaks through, Crow accepts that her time is now over in commercial spotlight. “I feel happy. I feel in peace,” she says. “There is not the 'Oh my god, I have to write a hit.' Even if I wrote a hit song, it would not be played!
