Trump Signs Executive Order to end federal financing for NPR and PBS

President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday with which federal financing for NPR and PBS was reduced, and accused the outlets, biased reporting and “propaganda for the left wing”.

Mr. Trump instructed the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which finances public broadcasters in the United States in order to end federal financing for NPR and PBS, provided that this is permissible. The news agencies only receive a small part of their financing from the congress, with the rest of donors and sponsors.

The immediate influence of order was unclear. The private company for public broadcasting, a private company supported by the taxpayer, is financed two years in advance to protect it from political maneuvers.

The Executive Ordinance was the most recent step of the Trump government against what it described as biased public media. The White House published a document in which the order was accompanied on its website, and criticized the reporting on the two channels about the Covid 19 pandemy and Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Mr. Trump ordered the company for public broadcasting and all federal authorities to reduce indirect financing by banning public radio and television channels that receive federal funds that use this money for PBS or NPR programs.

The managing directors of NPR and PBS said before the congress in March, a heated hearing in which the Republicans described them as liberal bias.
