Cat survives 115-meter crash, where a couple was killed in the US Canyon National Park

Utah:

A cat that fell into a 115-meter high canyon together with a couple was the only survivor of the incident in the western United States, an animal protection organization said on Thursday.

The cat “was found in a black, soft carrier that was dirty and torn, but had survived the fall pretty well,” said the Best Friends Animal Society.

The staff estimated that the cat is 12 years old. It was found next to two people, a couple that the local authorities said they died from a popular tourist place in the Bryce Canyon National Park in the US state of Utah at the beginning of this week.

The Garfield County's office identified the victims on Wednesday as Matthew Nannen (45) and Bailee Crane (58).

Local media reported that the couple died between Monday and Tuesday. The cat, which has now been called Mirage, was saved alive on Tuesday evening and brought to an animal system.

“She was matted and a bit sore, but friendly in the examination and drinking and eating alone,” said the Best Friends Animal Society.

It added that Mirage's bloodwork showed no signs of abnormality, but that the staff was waiting for X -rays to determine whether there were other injuries.
