Ten dead, dozens injured after the bus accident in the Philippines

Ten people were killed and more than 30 injured after a bus had hit several vehicles on a toll gate on one of the most frequented frequented motorways in the north of the Philippines, according to the authorities.

The bus driver who was imprisoned said that he fell asleep at the wheel, said the police that four children were among the dead.

Buses on the Subic Clark-Tarlac Expressway of almost 100 km (62 mi) often ferry the workers between Manila and the surrounding provinces. The accident occurred on Thursday, while the families traveled on the day of the laboratory.

The Ministry of Transport ordered the suspension of Solid North Bus, a large bus operator in the region and the company that had the vehicle involved in the crash.

The bus driver can be charged with several murders for “ruthless incorporation”, the police told AFP. The bus manager was also arrested.

The accident also included three sports supply vehicles and a container truck, said the Filipino Red Cross in a Facebook post.

The organization said on Wednesday in another post that they provided people in the hospital who were injured by the crash.

Deadly bus accidents are not unusual in the Philippines.

Drug use among bus drivers has also made headlines in the past few weeks – although it is unclear whether it was a factor for the accident on Thursday.

In April, some public vehicle companies – including buses, jeepneys and tricycles – were exposed to suspension after 84 of his drivers had positively tested for prohibited substances.

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon will meet representatives of almost 30 bus companies on Friday after the latest accident, the local media reported.

“I will really find it out. I'll be honest with you. What's going on, why do you have all the accidents, why are your drivers testing all positively for drugs,” he said.

“I will be directly with our bus companies, because if you do not bring your plot together, if you don't make yourself, you will really be sorry.”

In 2023, 17 bus passengers died after the brakes on the vehicle failed and they plunged into a gorge in the central philippines, along a winding road that was known as the “killer curve” among the locals.
