After not heard by Betsy over a period of two weeks, he was more concerned about the couple and knew that something was “serious”.

“I turned to other people and asked if they had spoken to them and it was all … two and a half weeks, three weeks,” said Kessler. “It was not at all that they just went out of the city, or if something had happened to someone, I would have known about it. And there was nothing. And then I knew that I had to do something and basically started the process.”

Kesler started the necessary steps to continue with a wellness check after talking to a friend in law enforcement agencies, and had to get in touch with a family member to continue, but did not know genes and only had the information of the mother of Betsy.

Kesler was disappointed that he had no chance of showing his respect and only experienced her funeral by the media.

“It was hurtful just because I really took care of these people and I wanted to say goodbye and look forward to a closure,” said Kesler. “There were many of us who were very close to them and they loved, and I think we should have our chance to say goodbye and close something,” said Kesler.
