Joelinton measures the rest of Newcastles season with knee injury

Eddie Howe says Joelinton is highly unlikely this season due to his last knee injury that Newcastle United will be released.

The 28-year-old missed the 3-0 victory in Newcastle against Ipswich Town last weekend. The Brazilian took part in an appointment with a specialist to determine the extent of his injury.

In the past, he has suffered from knee problems in the past, including this season, and as a result, five games were missed, and it was advised to rest for the last four games of the campaign. Joelinton will definitely not be seen at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

“The likelihood is that it will be difficult, I think, but Joe will never rule it out,” said Howe when he was asked whether Joelinton would appear again this season. “He is so motivated to try to come back. A little discomfort in his knee last week before the game he was looking for a specific opinion.

“Nothing serious, but he needed a break. He is now in Brazil. We will see whether we can get it back by the end of the season, but probably not. I would not say that it is a new injury, but it is a relative injury and it only takes a little rest.”

However, Sven Botman returned without prejudice to his own injury last weekend and is intended to secure the Champions League qualification during the run as a third-placed Newcastle look.

“Yes, he got through (well),” Howe said about Botman's fitness. “He trained well this week, looks good and a big big positive to have him back.”

Howe has also suggested that Jamaal Lascelles, the captain of the club, will probably not play at all in 2024-25. He has not yet occurred this season due to an injury to cross -crossed ligaments (ACL), but has returned to training the first team.

“It is making good progress,” said Howe. “Really satisfied with the look. It was a slow, steady return. It was certainly not rushed. It might be involved until the end of the season, but it will depend on injuries within the squad. It may be better for Jamaal for the next season, but it has done the whole work.”
