A cat that fell into a 380 -foot canyon with a couple was the only survivor of the incident in a national park in Utah, said an animal protection area on Thursday.

The cat “was found in a black, soft carrier that was dirty and torn, but had survived the fall pretty well,” said the Best Friends Animal Society.

The staff estimated that the cat is 12 years old. It was found next to two people, a couple of which the local authorities said they died after a popular tourist place in the Bryce Canyon National Park at the beginning of this week.

The Garfield County's office identified the deceased as Matthew Nannen (45) and Bailee Crane (58) on Wednesday.

Tourists discovered the corpses on Tuesday under the inspiration point after the two of them fell late Monday or early Tuesday, the Sheriff's office of the Garfield County announced in a statement. How they fell was unknown, but according to the explanation they had crossed safety railings.

Nannen and Crane lived in a U-Haul van and recently spent a lot of time in Arizona. According to the Sheriff's office, Florida was her last state of the permanent apartment.

The cat, which has now been called Mirage, was saved alive on Tuesday evening and brought to an animal system.

First, the cat was brought to Panguitch in Pawz on April 29, but the next day the best friends were contacted by the sheriff's office and Mirage transported almost 70 miles to her sanctuary in Kanab, reported CBS subsidiary Kutv.

“She was matted and a bit sore, but friendly in the examination and drinking and eating alone,” said the Best Friends Animal Society.

It added that Mirage's bloodwork showed no signs of abnormality, but that the staff was waiting for X -rays to determine whether there were other injuries.

Bryce Canyon is a colorful labyrinth of doors, cliffs and gorges, which are eroded in soft rock and earth on the edge of a plateau. Every year, more than 2 million people visit the park.
