Arkansas Crime Lab terminates Dr. Katrina Taylor as Forensic Pathology Fellow 2026-27

The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory (ASCL) has announced that Dr. Katrina Taylor, currently in East Tennessee State University, has been completed as a forensic pathology scholarship holder for the academic year 2026-2027. Dr. Taylor has a strong educational background and has its bachelor's degree at the University of California in San Diego and her medical degree at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“We are very happy to have recruited Dr. Tayansas. It quickly became clear to us that Dr. Taylor is in her commitment to the service of others,” said Dr. Theodore (TED) Brown, ASCL director and Chief Medical Examiner. “Dr. Taylor's commitment to serve others will best position our team if we continue to work with community champions in order to ultimately improve the life of all Arkansans.”
The Forensic Pathology Fellowship Program is a collaborative initiative between the ASCL and the Department of Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Dr. Taylor will train with the ASCL team with the mission to improve the health, security and well-being of Arkansas through training qualified forensic pathologists that can provide families, communities and stakeholders independent, competent services.
In 2025, the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for forensic pathology included 40 participating programs and 71 certified positions. The Match for Forensic Pathology Fellowships took place on April 30, 2025. The positions in July 2026. The ASCL-UAMS program is one of the certified programs that participate in the NRMP, which reflects its national reputation and commitment to the ongoing lack of forensic pathologists in the United States.
“Every case offers the opportunity to honor the deceased and their relatives. Regardless of whether it is identified by an unknown person or documenting the cause of death with precision, I am determined to pursue the truth with unshakable engagement,” said Dr. Taylor. “It is the career that I was looking for, the one who drives me to get better every day to make sure that justice is served and stories are told, even if the deceased can no longer tell it himself.”
Dr. Katrina Taylor begins her scholarship in July 2026 and will be the second forensic pathology scholacy for the ASCL team. Dr. Lance van Truong will begin his one -year forensics
