05-02-2025

(SFM) Ben Harper released his emotional new single “Tried the Rain”. The track is an urgently beautiful reflection on the loss that is dedicated to his long -time guitarist Michael Ward. “Before the Rain Dried” is the first single from Harpers not yet announced new album.

“Songs come to me either in fragments or fully shaped – this came completely, production and everything. The key has the time to sit down and follow what I did,” said Harper. “Director Ben Pier, a visionary photographer and filmmaker, had a similar experience. I sent him the track and he almost immediately called back with a clear concept for the video. To play the piano while he was soaked in the rain, but strangely exciting.”

Harper recently shared the stage with some of the biggest names of music and pop culture at People the Power: a celebration by Patti Smith, the tribut show in Carnegie Hall, which is filled with stars. Bruce Springsteen, Flea, Maggie Rogers, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Penn and many more were introduced during the fundraiser. The evening was Harper's fifth appearance in New York Carnegie Hall.

This summer Ben Harper and the innocent criminals will go a 15-day summer tour. The tour will start on May 30th in the Lincoln Theater in Washington DC with stops on the roof at Pier 17 in New York City, a higher ballroom in Burlington, VT, the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wi, and the Fox Theater in Oakland. The tour ends on August 24th in the Orpheum in Los Angeles.

In the tour, Harper Fan favorites from his extensive catalog as well as tracks of his 2023-albums Wide Open Light (Chrysalis Records) celebrated by the criticism will list a number of special guests, including Jack Johnson on “Yard Sale”, Shelby Lynne on “8 minutes” and Piers Facinion on the Title Track.
