NOPD officer injured, suspect who was killed in an officer killed in an officer

This morning (May 2, 2025), a NOPD officer was seriously injured when he reacted to an obvious incident with an overdose, which escalated to a violent and tragic consequence of events.

Shortly before 10:37 a.m., a NOPD officer who worked a paid detail was determined in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 1900 block of the Tchoupitoulas Street in relation to a man who experiences a possible overdose in a vehicle. The officer answered and managed to help and managed Narcan, the person supposedly suddenly drove away from the scene, with the officer still being physically bound to the vehicle.

As he dragged the officer, the suspect left the Walmart parking lot on the Rousseau Street in Saint Andrew. During the fight, the officer is said to have released her service weapon and hit the suspect. The official was then rejected from the moving vehicle and landed under another vehicle.

The suspect continued the flight to Rousseau Street and finally collided with another vehicle at a short distance. NOPD Emergency Medical Responder Officers were on site and immediately provided help to the suspect. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later died.

In addition, a female topic on the Walmart parking lot was impressed by the suspect's vehicle when it fled from the first scene. She was also taken to a hospital to treat injuries.

The official suffered several injuries and is currently being treated in a local hospital where it is currently listed in stable condition.

This incident is still actively examined by the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau's Force Investigation Team. According to the standard protocol, the official involved was submitted to the administrative instruction up to the result of the investigation.
