Idaho: Seven people who were killed in motorway accidents near Yellowstone, says the police | Idaho

A pickup and a tour van collided on a motorway to the Yellowstone National Park and were injured seven people and eight more, said the Idaho state police.

The crash occurred shortly before 7.15 p.m. on Thursday near Henry's Lake State Park in the east of Idaho, the police said in a press release. State Park is around 26 km west of Yellowstone.

The authorities did not say what led to the crash.

Both vehicles caught fire, the Idaho State Police said in a press release. The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup and six people in the Mercedes passenger -van died. The van wore a tour group of 14 people, and the surviving residents were brought to hospitals with injuries, said Aaron Snell, a police spokesman, Aaron Snell.

Climate medicine and emergency situations reacted to the collision that continues to be examined.

The Fandront County's office did not publish the names of the people killed on Friday morning. The police said that the officials were still working to notify family members of the killed and injured, so that the agency did not yet publish the names, age groups, home towns or nationalities of the people involved.

The 60 -year -old Roger Merrill drove home when he saw the flames devoured the two vehicles when the audience tried to take care of the van on the side of the highway. Merrill said that he had often seen tourist cars on the highway that leads to Yellowstone.

“It is a very dangerous motorway because it leads to the main entrance of Yellowstone National Park,” he said. “It's very busy.”

Merrill raised a video of the wrecks with smoke that covered the van. Due to the remote location, Merrill said that he is looking forward to the help of first aiders.

“It took an annoying time until help only because of the location,” he said.

The Idaho Transportation Department has identified the motorway for security improvements to reduce the severity of accidents, but the project is still in the research and planning phase.

According to the agency, this part of the highway had an average of around 10,500 vehicles in 2023 in 2023.
