SQ2 – Norris fastest, late drama for Sainz

After a short break, 10 minutes for SQ2 went to the clock, a segment in which the middle tire is mandatory again. Antonelli looked strong again when the session started. The Italian hit P1 by just 0.002s.

This position was soon taken over by Piatri, the McLaren man, who set the pace at 1m 27,354 to release almost two tenths from teammates Norris. In the meantime, others decided to stay in the box for the first few minutes and instead to only run one run in the last phases.

Among those who let it go late, Gasly, who contacted the wall through round 16, was still in eighth place. An improvement of Ocon pushed the alpine driver into the danger zone, while Alonso and Hulkenberg also got out of the lower five.

However, Hamilton and Albon then moved into the top 10 and push Hulkenberg, Ocon, Gasly and Lawson.

Also in P15 was Sainz, the Williams driver, who was forced into the drain in curve 11 in the drainage area. At the other end of the spectrum, the former team colleague of the Spaniard, Norris, was the fastest.
