Connor Zilisch gives injury updates: “Back would be silly”

The JR Motorsport driver Connor Zilisch provided an update about his recovery after a back injury during a wreck with Jesse Love in Talladega last weekend. As a result, it will not run in Texas.

While he spoke to the Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass (below) on the Texas Motor Speedway, Zilisch said:

“Yes, I feel okay. You know, much of what I do is not with me, I hear all the doctors around me and the people around me who have much more, not just racing experience, but life experience.

“I have a lot in front of me and I would return to something after such a crash.

“So, yes, we only take time with the recovery process and take it one day after the other, and you know that I feel better every day. Thankful for everyone who was there for me and were ready to give me impartial answers during the entire process.”

Zilisch added to the question of details about the injury:

“I don't know what to say.

“I cleared all of my X -rays on the track, and it was nothing obvious. Everything is very low, I will say that. But I don't know what I can say to what my injuries are, but I will probably only address the fifth and do not bring myself into difficulties. There is no crazy great injury that lasts me for months.

The 31-time winner of the NASCAR Cup series, Kyle Larson, is in the XFinity series for Zil this weekend. JR Motorsports confirmed at the beginning of the week, as already reported by Newsweek Sports:

“This weekend Kyle Larson will sess to Connor Zil at the Texas Motor Speedway behind the CHEVROLET No. 88, while Zil continues to recover from a violation of the lower back in Talladega.”

After the news about his absence, the team, which was guided by Dale Earnhardt Jr. The team confirmed in a statement:

“Connor Zilisch has granted a Playoff waiver from Nascar and remains qualified for the 2025 NXS playoffs.”
