Royals Manager offers injury update for Salvador Perez

Thanks to the left hip pain, the list of Catcher/Hitter Salvador Perez was not in the occupation of Kansas City Royals on Friday evening when a series with three games against the Baltimore Orioles in Camden Yards began. The Royals manager Matt Quatraro said, however, said that he had not expected the nine-time all-star to be missing in the line-up for a long time.

“It is the same hip pain he had, so we feel really happy that there was nothing new,” said Quatraro. “It is day after day. Hopefully we can stay away from him for a few days. That is why we (Luke) have activated Maile.”

Luke Maile, which was previously brought up from Triple-A Omaha a day, gives the Royals three catchers on their active squad. With Perez on Friday, Freddy Fermin took over behind the plate, while Mark Canha took over the defined rackets.

Quatraro said it was not from the question that the Royals Perez could use as a pinch of Hitter. However, that would probably be a long shot.

“We will do everything we cannot use to use it,” said Quatraro about Perez, who left the game on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays in the sixth inning with the hip problem.

“I think he was aware of how sore he left the game yesterday, and very happy that things were not worse than he got the MRI,” he continued. “It's day after day and really not that big.”

Outside of a seven-day list of lists in 2023 due to concussion, the 34-year-old Perez has not been on the injured list since the middle of the 2022 campaign.

Even with the durability of Perez displayed by Perez, Maile, a nine-year-old MLB veteran, will receive his first exposure with the royals outside of spring training. He said on Friday that he went back to his memorial bank to prepare for working with Royals Pitchers in Baltimore and possibly beyond.

“I will rely on these experiences quite strongly,” said Maile about spring training. “You really have to stay in your game. It is not something you take easily because it comes back to bite you when you do it.”
