PCB Turtle Watch tells how everyone can protect the turtles

Panama City Beach, Florida (WJHG/WECP) – The Turtle Nisting season is officially underway, and in the last 35 seasons the Panama City Beach Turtle Watch on the beach, protects nests and slippery sea turtles.

Turtle Watch is an organization under the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which patrols the beach for turtle nests, and they demand that everyone takes into account the turtles this summer.

“Everyone can help leave the beach clean, dark and flat,” said Angela Barros, director of the PCB Turtle Watch. We have a vacation regulation that says that nothing can remain unattended. This is to protect sea turtles that can come on the sandy beach at night. “

If you recognize a nest, mark it with a shield and provide a precautionary band about the area. Turtle Watch asks that when you see one of these areas, let it be.

“We only ask that everyone respectes the barriers,” says Barros. “If you see a sea turtle on the beach to make sure that you call the local Panama City Beach non-emergency police, you will contact our volunteers. We would like to make sure that these sea turtles will be supplied.”

Barros emphasizes how important everyone is to protect the sea turtles.

The turtles that nest here in the Panhandle are either threatened or endangered nationwide, “said Barrows.
