Who was Aliza Sherman? The victim stabbed in the city center of Cleveland; Divorce lawyer charged

Cleveland, Ohio (Woio) – Aliza Sherman was stabbed outside of her divorce lawyer in 2013.

Now, 12 years later, an arrest was made in her case.

19 News examined who was Sherman and what led to her tragic murder.

The nurse

Before her death, Eliza Sherman was a beloved fertility nurse in the Cleveland Clinic.

Sherman started in 2003 in a Beachwood branch of the Cleveland Clinic, where she worked in the IVF surgical department.

Sherman moved to the main branch of the Cleveland Clinic in September 2006.

Sherman has completed her nursing at Cleveland State University.

In 2023, Sherman's daughter Jennifer Sherman founded the Aliza Sherman Fund in the Cleveland Clinic.

The fund goes to patients with Cleveland Clinic and caregivers who have experienced violence.

The mother

Aliza Sherman was 53 years old when she died and had four children.

Her children were between 17 and 29 years old at the time of her mother's death.

According to court files, the divorce goes back to 2011.

Sanford Sherman was never appointed a suspect in connection with Aliza's death, but the police always wanted to speak to him. The investigators say that he would not cooperate.

The Cuyahoga County public prosecutor's office confirmed 19 news on Friday that Sanford was not suspected of being a co -swear of murder at Alizas.

Sherman died just a few days before July 4th in 2024.

According to an indictment submitted on May 2, 2025, Gregory Moore or a “unimaginated” co -conspirator Sherman on March 24, 2013.

Sherman was outside of her divorce lawyer Gregory Moore's office in the double -digit block of Erieview Plaza.

The best friend

On Friday afternoon, 19 messages consisted exclusively with Jan Lash.

“Everything we wanted was justice and we will get it. And I am just so grateful for the work that all of them put in,” said Lash. “It is just waiting for something, waiting for peace for her, waiting for you to rest in peace and I wish she was here, but I had the feeling that he had to do it all the time, and um, it is difficult.”

Jan and Aliza met in a Lamaz class because both children expected 40 years ago.

“It was so difficult without living in my life and not knowing the truth,” said Lash.

Lash said she always thinks that suspicious Gregory Moore has something to do with Aliza's murder.

“Well, I always thought he had something to do with it when he just didn't make sense that he had nothing to do with it because he had contacted her a few times that day and everything was a bit strange,” said Lash. “And my heart believed that he had something to do with it.”

19 news anchors Tiffani Tucker broke the news a few minutes before the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation on Friday afternoon.

“They told me every time I call, they told me that we were working on it. And they did the job,” said Lash. “And I'm so grateful.”

Jan is looking forward to finally getting the closure she needs.

“I want to staring at him and just let him know that what he did was terrible. He is a monster,” said Lash.
