Firefighters work after “explosion” sparks 2-alarm fire in Charlotte Home

Charlotte (Queen City News) According to Charlotte Fire Department, crews have included a 2-alarm fire in a house in South Charlotte.

On Friday around 6:16 a.m., the authorities said that they were called to a fully involved house fire on the Lombardy circle. A second alarm was called around 6:35 a.m., which helps more crews.

Drew Shook Lives Catycorner from whom it happened. He said he was in the bathtub when he heard the explosion.

“Everyone felt it,” said Shok. “I jumped out, I was like what happened? I thought, Blitz hit the house, or like a tree on our place or so.

Shook called his wife Quin Powell at work.

“I started to panic and everything,” said Powell. “And then I went the work – I cried and I said, what do you mean? A house explodes? Are you okay?”

Sixty firefighters checked the fire in about an hour. The fire is still being examined.

The explosion and fire influenced the residents and shops nearby, like Rick St. George's. He owns the physiotherapy of St. George am East Blvd.

“On the way to work today, you suddenly see fire engines and fire and police officers who stop all traffic, which is a little scary,” said St. George. “Only the not knowledge is the frightening thing and how do you prepare for it? You can't.”

The Mecklenburg Ems Agency said they were asked after reports on burns and an explosion. However, civil servants are still working to find out what exactly led to the big fire.

St. George said he had to park in Freedom Park because East BLVD was closed in front of his office. He decided to terminate all of his customers for the day.

“The effects are obviously a financial success that patients have to be canceled for the day, but also take their security into account first,” said St. George.

Officials said a person in a nearby building was evaluated by the medical staff. The Hazardous Materials team from CFD has worked to control gas leaks.

Officials said firefighters worked in an extremely dangerous situation and tried to manage the unstable structure, active fire and the gas leaks.

The public is asked to avoid the area and give in to rescue vehicles. The intersection of the East Boulevard and the Lombardy Circle was closed for hours on Friday.
