Mets roll past cardinals in the serial opener (highlights)

The New York Mets (22-11) exploded for 17 goals and drove on Friday evening in the Busch Stadium for a 9: 3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals (14-19).

Clay Holmes jumped back after a shaky start. Although he allows three runs early, including a buzzing error by Francisco Alvarez, who collapsed the game, Holmes got in and threw six solid inners. He limited the cardinals to three runs to eight goals and struck three without a walk.

The Mets's offensive started early and used Sonny Grays' fights in the second inning. Alvarez drove in the run with a large and the Mets took the lead 2-1. However, it was in the fifth inning that they really broke out the game. Juan Soto crushed a double, followed by Pete Alonsos 417-foot Homerun to bring the Mets 4: 3. The rally continued with four direct goals, and Alvarez added another RBI for a 6: 3 lead.

Geimmo added a Homer in the seventh, and Alvarez played in his third game in his third game in his third game. Luisangel Acuña also contributed with a double and victim fly to ensure the dominant victory of the Mets.

José Buttó and Ryne Stanek threw both goalless inning in relief.
