The new Shasta County employee aims after transparency with video system

Clint Curtis, the newly appointed clerk and registrar of Shasta County voters, is already planning to settle in the Redding region. Until a background check, Curtis is expected to officially take on his role within a few weeks.

Curtis, a lawyer with offices previously in New York, Florida and other places, expressed his intention to make Shasta County his constant home. He was appointed on Wednesday to complete a term that ends in June 2026.

Curtis emphasized his priority to evaluate the employee's office. “When people are used to hiding the ball and now shows a camera that shows everything, many people don't feel comfortable. People who do not try to cheat may feel uncomfortable to make mistakes and make the public, they are an idiot.

Curtis plans to implement a pioneering video system to ensure accuracy and transparency to prevent fraud. With regard to the question of manual votes, Curtis said that he would adhere to the law.

“I don't like machines,” said Curtis. “I think they are a waste of money, I think they are a waste of time. There are ways to count these elections by hand, which would take two hours [the machines]. We have to pay providers, that's what California wants. So we can do that. As long as we have a point before anything a machine, a scanner, touches everything else … As long as we have this point with which we can reconcile, it would be a very bad idea for the machine to change your sums. “

Curtis also confirmed his intention to run for the office in 2026, and possibly established a closely respected race with the current deputy registrar of voters, Joanna Francescut.
