Local father campaigns for changes after the daughter's death in Henryetta murder suicide

Two years after the devastating murder self-murder, which the city of Henryetta, Oklahoma, shocked, runs a grief for an office to create changes. Nathan Brewer, who lost his 15-year-old daughter Brittany in the tragedy, is now running for a seat in the Senate in District 8.

On May 1, 2023, Jesse McFadden murdered six people before taking their lives. Families of the victims have been committed to legislative reforms since then and gathered behind a proposed draft law, which was sentenced as Knight's Law to request stricter conviction for people who were convicted of sexual crimes against children.

Despite the efforts of parents like Justin Webster, whose daughter Ivy was also one of the victims, Knights Law did not say goodbye to Oklahoma's legislature after the introduction in several sessions.

“There is a big problem, not only in our state, but in our country,” said Webster during the legislative period 2024. “When we get the recognition and get people in motion and get out of their chairs to make something, this is important at the moment.”

For Brewer, the failure to pass the bill has only deepened its determination. Now, just 11 days from the primary elections, he says that he is ready to take the matter into his own hands.

“The biggest problem you saw in the Ritter Act is to have someone on the Senate side,” said Brewer. “That is another reason why I'm running.”

Brewer, who recently is visibly emotional during an interview, spoke about the horrors with which his daughter was confronted and why this is a driving force behind his campaign. “When the report came out that one of the last things McFadden had been looking for on the Internet was how to be drunk in handcuffs … I am pretty sure that she had the alcohol in her system. It was tortured. And that's why I fight the fight I am fighting.”

A memorial flag for honoring Brittany Brewer is still flying in the family's house. It is a constant memory of lost life – and the mission brewer is obliged.

New Schannel 8 turned to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to talk about the examination of the murders. Osbi said you currently had no additional information.

The main election for Senate 8 in Oklahoma will take place on May 13, 2025.
