Five people survive 36 hours in the swamp infected by Alligator after the plane crash

Five people were saved after spending 36 hours on a plane in a swamp infested by Alligator in the Amazon after being forced to carry out an emergency landing, the local authorities said.

The small plane was found on Friday by local fishermen in the Amazon region of Bolivia after it was missing for 48 hours.

The survivors – three women, a child and the 29 -year -old pilot – were saved in “excellent condition”, said Wilson Avila, director of the Beni department's emergency cooperations.

A search and rescue mission was started on Thursday after the aircraft from the Radar of the Beni department in Central Bolivia disappeared.

The pilot informed the local media that an engine failure during a flight from Bauer in Northern Bolivia to the city of Trinidad led to an emergency landing near the Itanyflow.

Andres Velarde said that the plane had suddenly lost the height and that he was forced to land the craft in a swamp near a lagoon.

The five who were on board stood on the plane and were “surrounded by alligators who came from us within three meters”.

Velarde added that he believed that petrol expires from the plane had kept the predators in check. They also saw an anaconda in the water, he said.

While they were waiting for rescue, they ate a local manio flour that one of the passengers had brought with them.

“We couldn't drink water and we couldn't go there any other way because of the alligators,” said Velarde.

After the fishermen discovered the craft, a helicopter was sent to transport the survivors to the hospital.

Ruben Torres, director of the Health Ministry of the Beni region, said that “many speculation about the case” and “many theories” gave after the plane disappeared.

“I am very happy because in the end all institutions were put together to find the missing people and save them life,” he told Reuters.
