A man from Illinois who killed a 6-year-old Palestinian American Wade Alfayoumi and his mother was sentenced to 53 years in prison days after the Gaza strip war on Friday.

The 73-year-old Joseph Czuba was found guilty of murder, heavy battery and hate crime for murder, heavy battery and hate crimes after he had attacked the day-long family days against Israel on October 7, 2003, NBC News.

The boy's mother said Czuba told her that “her people” kill Jewish people and babies in Israel and are not welcome in his house, according to the report.

The only witness of the public prosecutor's office, Wadees Great Uncle, Mahmoud Yousef, said that the boy's death shaked the hopes and dreams of the family. “No matter what the sentence will be, it will not justify,” he was quoted.

Czuba refused to speak in his conviction.

He was found guilty in October 14, 2023, fatal in Plainfield, 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Chicago. The crime occurred in Czuba's house, where the victims had rented two rooms.

The prosecutors said Czuba targeted the family because of their Islamic faith and in response to Israel's war against the Gaza Strip, which started a week earlier.

Former President Joe Biden reminded a year since the “hideous” fatal attack last year.
