Red Sox 'Triston Casas has a significant' knee injury, 'was shocked, ”says Alex Cora

Boston-after an otherwise encouraging 6-1 victory over the Minnesota twins, the Red Sox complained about the loss of the first Baseman baseman-Triston Casas, which after an apparently serious injury to his left knee from the field on the bottom of the second inning.

“It is an important knee injury,” confirmed Alex Cora. “He is currently in the hospital and gets more tests and all of the stuff. We will have more information (Saturday).”

Cora and a member of the team's training employee rushed out to take care of Casas, who stumbled across the first base bag while trying to hit a soft roller to the right of the hill just to fall on the floor after the knee appeared to strap up.

“It seemed like he was shocked to be honest,” said Cora. “He immediately said he didn't feel it. It's hard. He worked so hard. We want him in the field. It was also a hectic game, and that happened.”

Cora said the scene on the Infield Dirt with Casas on the back in obvious need was emotional for everyone involved.

“You put so much effort into the low season,” said Cora. “I know how it works and everything he went through in the low season and made us prepared. He was looking forward to having a big season for us. It didn't start the way he wanted it, but he continued, worked and now this happens.

“We love (the game), we love the whole thing. But in the end we are humans and they suffer with them. It was difficult to see it … It is shit to be honest. This is the part you don't like the job – when people are injured and when they have to send people down. It's pretty hard.

“As I said, they have so much effort and work into the low season to try to play 162, and then something like that happens. That is why we don't think it is a matter of course-to be a day and to be a big Leaguer. And he loves to be a big casual. Will be again at some point.”

Cora said the atmosphere in the house conversion was “very quiet”.

“Terrible,” said teammate Alex Bregman. “Obviously we all think of him and hope for the best. Great teammate and you hate to see that. We are all thinking of him.”

Bregman said it was difficult to concentrate on the game after the injury had thrown a pall into the team.

“Sure it's hard,” he said. “We are a big family here who comes to the baseball stadium every day and see how one of her boys goes down, it is really difficult.”

Trevor Story, who suffered a serious shoulder injury last season, who missed him for almost five months, came out to comfort Casas when he was waiting for the car to take it off the field.

“(We were all) just shocked,” said Cora. “You don't expect that. And if you see the card, then (you recognize):” Oh … that's more than a twisted ankle “or something like that.”

When asked what the team's plans have for the first basis, Cora offered only a few details.

“We'll meet after the game and will talk,” said Cora.
