For a short moment on Friday evening, the San Diego Padres feared the worst. Fernando Tatis Jr., who left one of the most valuable players in the baseball in the first month of baseball against the pirates of the Padres against the pirates until the best offensive start of his career and in the first month after he was hit on the left forearm during the third inning.

A consequence of the left arm was diagnosed with him, and X -rays came back negatively, but the concern that spread through the shelter and the fan base was real.

“I feel good, just a little sore” Tatis said after the game, wrapped his arm wound into the clubhouse. “Bones came out well, so I go to sleep, see how it feels tomorrow and go from there.”

Tatis was immediately visited by manager Mike Shildt and the team's medical staff after the hit-by-pitch. He stayed to run the bases before he was replaced by Oscar Gonzalez.

So far, Tatis has been a constant in a Padres line -up that dealt with more than the appropriate share of absences. In 30 games he beats with eight Homeruns and 18 RBIs .345 and is one of the best ops (1.021, 3rd), a basic percentage (.419, 6.) and the slugging (0.602, 6).

Shildt knows the numbers and what they mean for the Padres. “We are lucky” He cleared the relief that the violation of the initial examination does not appear to be more serious. Still, nothing is certain. HIT-by-pitches on the arm can cause complications, especially for a player with a past injury. In 2023, Tatis finally stayed in the field for a complete run, won the platinum glove in his first full year in the outer field and performed in 141 games. But he was limited to 102 games in 2024, partly due to a stress fracture in his right thigh.

Tatis said he did not want to jump this time, even when the initial fear was great. The Padres cannot afford to lose it, especially not now.

Jackson Merrill, who has been equipped with a right thighs since April 6, will begin with a rehab order with Double-A San Antonio on Saturday. Yu Darvish, who deals with the right elbow inflammation, does not have a single appearance this year.

The hope is that Tatis does not connect to this list.
