The number of fatalities in the Al-Nahud attacks of the Sudan increases to 300: Rights Commission

Khartoum, Sudan/Ankara

The Sudanese National Commission for Human Rights announced on Saturday that at least 300 civilians, including 21 children and 15 women, were killed in an attack by the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF) in the city of al-Nahud in the state of West Kordofan.

In an official statement, the Commission condemned “The violations that the fast support forces have committed against civilians in al-Nahud, including direct targeting, execution and killing”.

It found that the number of death fees remains due to the continued siege of the city by RSF fighters and the prevention of the residents of flight or the access of help in front of the city.

On Friday, the Sudanese doctor network reported over 100 deaths in the same attack.

According to the Commission, the RSF also looted medical care, local markets and the Al-Nahud Hospital.

It appealed to the international community to put all parties under pressure to ensure that civilians are allowed to leave conflict zones safely.

There was no comment from the RSF to the reports.

The RSF claimed on Friday that it had taken full control over al-Nahud and, after collapsing with the state armed forces, confiscated the 18th headquarters of the Sudanese army.

The city, which was previously controlled under the control of the army, has been the temporary capital of West Kordofan since July 2024 after the RSF had conquered its original capital Al-Fula.

Since April 15, 2023, the RSF has been fighting against the army for control over Sudan, which leads to thousands of deaths and one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.

According to the UN and the local authorities, more than 20,000 victims were killed and 15 million expelled. However, research by US scientists estimates the number of fatalities at around 130,000.
