When Mrs. Wood spoke to the BBC's one show, she said that her sister Jenny loved Karaoke and supported her in everything she did. She said her love for singing had “died” with her sister.

“I turned 40 and thought I had to find myself again and I got together for a choir,” she said.

All of them have 450 singers in choirs in Hull, Beverley, Clleethorpes, Market Weight and Driffield. More than 220 take part in the competition.

“If you have the friendships and the support of everyone around you, feel welcome. You feel loved. You feel completely,” she said.

“Being in the choir definitely contributed to healing me. I often think that it saved me when I didn't even know that I had to save.”

“Joy in singing”

The artistic director of the competition, Mat Wright, said the event was a shop window for choirs from all over the world.

“We are happy to be able to welcome 10 different countries, 24 choirs in this wonderful historic city,” he said.

“It is a special opportunity for choirs from all experiences, and crucial different backgrounds and cultures to compete against each other, but also to share the joy of singing and combined in a really beautiful way.”

Ms. Wood said she was very excited to take part: “There are about 200 people in the choir, and it's just an amazing feeling to stand on this stage and be able to be able.”

There are free services on the Trinity Market, Hull Paragon exchange and on the ground floor of Princes Quay above the holiday weekend.
