A 39-year-old man is dead after he was stabbed on Saturday morning near the south side on the south side of the city.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of the South Rhodes Avenue in the district of Douglas.

According to the Chicago police, the victim stood near the sidewalk when he was addressed by an unknown person who took out a sharp object and swung it.

The victim was stabbed into the chest area and brought to the Medical Center of the University of Chicago, where he was declared dead.

The police said nobody was in custody.
