The Topeka Zoo organizes safe children's day and sensitizes to the prevention of injuries

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) -The 10th annual Safe Kids Day transformed the Topeka zoo into a one -stop shop for child safety.

“Unintentional injuries are the most common cause of the death of Kansas children, but the good news is that most of these injuries are predictable, which means that they are also avoidable. So we are here to share these tips with the parents,” said Cherie Sage, State Director for Safe Children of Kansas.

Families who are busy with over two dozen organizations who offer pedagogical and entertaining resources for the safe children's day a day to learn how to stay safe and healthy all year round.

“All of these people are out here to exchange information with families and have a really fun day,” continued Sage.

The event also marks the beginning of the safe children's month, a compliance that raises awareness of the prevention of childhood injuries.

“Bumps and scratches and bruises are fine. These are really healthy signs of children who explore the world, but we try to prevent the more serious and deactivated injuries,” continued Sage.

As part of the initiative, children received free, customizable bicycle helmets so that they can remain stylish.

“I have a pink with butterflies and pink lines everywhere,” said Naomi Putnam, event participant.

But beyond these helmets and handouts, it is about how security feels from the perspective of a child.

“It means being safe for me, so I'm protected and I am not hurt or hurt,” said an event participant.

“To stay healthy,” said an event participant.

Safe Kids Kansas also received a grant of 30,000 US dollars from State Farm to support the initiative.
