Bob Filner, Mayor of San Diego, who went in the middle of scandal, dies at 82

Bob Filner, a progressive democrat that served two decades in the congress and then successfully ran for the Mayor of San Diego. He promised to open the town hall – whose career imploded within months in the middle of a storm of sexual harassment – died on April 20. He was 82 years old.

His family announced death. The announcement gave neither one thing nor to say where he died, but the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that he had died in a supervised house in Costa Mesa, California.

Mr. Filner, who was known for his tedious and combative style, resigned as mayor in August 2013 after 18 women accused him of in his time as mayor and during his years in the congress of sexual misconduct.

Women included a retired Marine counteradmiral, a dean from the university and Mr. Filner's former communication director who said Mr. Filner told her that he wanted to see her naked and asked her without working underwear.

He left the office and rejected misconduct. Two months later, he was guilty of arranging a crime of incorrect detention and offenses due to battery with two other women. He was sentenced to three months at home and three years of probation.

“I never wanted to be a mayor who went out,” he said.
