The management of Trump plans to shorten thousands of employees in spy amount

The Trump administration plans to significantly reduce the workforce of the central secret services and other US secret services in order to cut thousands of employees of employees over several years, and shared two sources with knowledge of the matter.

The administration's cost-reduction at the CIA and other secret services suggests a more calibrated exertion than their strategy in other federal departments, with some agenture to which the US Agency for International Development-in is significant.

The legislators were informed that downsizing in the CIA would reduce around 1,000 to 1,200 employees, the sources said. The agency does not open the size of its workforce, but the agency showed through more than 21,000 employees in 2013.

The Washington Post first reported on the planned personnel cuts.

The CIA refused to comment on details on planned reductions in the agency's workforce. It was unclear how the cuts would affect different departments.

A CIA spokesman said in an e -mail that the director of the agency, John Ratcliffe, “quickly moved to ensure that the CIA workforce reacts to the national security priorities of the administration.”

“These steps are part of a holistic strategy to move the agency with renewed energy, increase increasing managers the opportunity to show up and position the CIA better in order to meet its mission,” added the speaker.

Other intelligence agencies, which, in contrast to the CIA under the budget of the Ministry of Defense, want to reduce personnel in accordance with the aim of the Pentagon to reduce civil workforce by up to 8%, according to one of the sources with knowledge of the matter and a former intelligence official.

The cuts on the CIA and other spy matters would learn from a combination of scaling, early retirement and so -called “buyout” options for those who are willing to accept a unique offer to resign in the course of this year. But no mass shots were planned, the sources said.

The planned cuts take place at a time of increased security threats, with China's military power on the rise, Russia carries out sabotage campaign in Europe and a war in Ukraine and Iran that progress with its nuclear program.

At a cabinet meeting in the White House on Wednesday, the director of the national secret services said Tulsi Gabbard, her office was “25 % smaller and slimmer in mid -February than I went into the door”. Gabard did not work out.

At her hearing for confirmation in the Senate in January, Gabbard said that she supported the office of the director of the National Secret Service, which monitors the country's espionage agencies.

The Odni did not immediately answer a request for comment.

The cuts come as a Trump administration and Elon Musk Consulting Department for Government Efficiency to dramatically reduce the federal assistant.

Although the administration is planning to avoid mass shots, she tried to relieve dozens of CIA and Odni employees, since temporary jobs were assigned to diversity programs. A group of employees asked for their shots in court, and a federal judge issued a temporary injunction in March in which their layoffs were discontinued.

The CIA also offered buyouts for its workforce in February.
