1. Out of 7 people who are charged with Preston Lord's death, sentenced to 12 years in prison for 12 years

One of seven teenagers of East Valley and young adults who are charged with the death of 16-year-old Preston Lord was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter.

William Hines, 19, is the first of Lord's attackers to be convicted. The teenagers took part in a Halloween party in Queen Creek in 2023 when Lord was beaten hard. He was treated in a local hospital, but died two days later.

When Hines spoke to the court on Friday, he said he was sorry and he wanted to do better in the future.

“I should have learned from many previous mistakes, but I was blinded and I am still blinded with addiction and stubbornness,” said Hines. “I should have asked for help, but the past is the past and there is no way to change it.”

Preston's father, Nick Lord, also spoke to the court.

“I have no words of forgiveness, William Owen Hines for the role he played in the death of my son,” said Nick Lord. “The severity of crime requires accountability.”

The prosecutors had searched for the maximum 21 years after the conviction of Hines at Preston Lords Murder.

Hines will first serve five years for an accident, which he drunk drunk a few months before the attack on Lord. The person he plunged against suffered a traumatic brain injury.
