Trump the latest: Carney says King Charles will go to Canada this month – and confirms that he is Trump | will visit US messages

When Mark Carney's press conference is complete, he gave an insight into what he could discuss with Donald Trump in Washington next Tuesday.

He refers to Fentanyl tariffs and realizes that in view of the progress of Canada, they were “not deserved” on this topic.

“There are examples in which the fentanyl tariffs were certainly not earned with the fentanyl tariffs, but in view of all the steps that the Canadian government has undertaken and progress has been made,” he says.

“But you know that this will be a broader discussion, and it is one of the cards you have. And that's why we will see how it happens.”

For context: The Trump government justified its tariffs in Canada by saying that they should stop the spread and manufacture of the opioid fenanyl and put pressure on the neighbors of America to restrict illegal immigration to the USA.

Carney's predecessor as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Trump in early this year to try to avoid tariffs.

As part of it, Canada promised a border plan of 1 billion GBP – including 10,000 workers, drones, helicopters, a joint task force with the USA and more – to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal migration.

But Trump's tariffs continued.

It imposed a tariff of 25% to different Canadian goods along 25% tariffs for steel and aluminum.

Trump frees some products as part of the trade agreement with US Canada-Mexico USMCA.

Canada has trimmed back for American goods with tariffs worth 32 billion GBP.
