Girl, 10, killed

A 10-year-old girl was killed after a tree had fallen on the house of her family during a violent storm in Atlanta.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 3 a.m. when a cold front swept through Georgia and brought storms and heavy rain.

According to the Atlanta fire brigade, the tree was caught in half and collapsed in the house in the southwestern neighborhood of the city. Erica Dixon, a fourth grade student at the Kipp Way Academy, first died in the incident.

The girl's mother and grandmother suffered both injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Both should recover.

The firefighters said six people lived in the house and the American Red Cross had been contacted to help the residents not identified the officials.

Dixon's 14-year-old sister, Akiylah Dixon, described the ordeal to the outlet: “The house has just started trembling. Everything has just crashed, and I only see my mom run through the hallway to get to my grandma,” she said. “I collapsed really badly because it wasn't just my little sister. That was my best friend.”

In a written explanation published on Saturday, the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, said: “This morning we are sad due to the tragic death of this young girl as a result of the storms of the last night. We ask for all Georgians who pray for their loved ones in this difficult time.”

In parts of the south and the middle west, heavy storms were experienced at the beginning of this month, causing at least 19 people to be dead after a series of historical rainfall, floods and strong winds.

At that time, 73 million people were among flood alarms, the National Weather Service reported.

The independent has sent the Atlanta fire brigade an e -mail to receive information.
