Minnesota woman collects 500,000 US

A woman in Rochester, Minnesota, collected more than 500,000 US dollars through a crowdfunding campaign after a viral video on a playground in the city used a racist slur against a black child.

The incident, which was rotated by bytander Sharmake Omar, was widespread on social media platforms such as Tiktok, Twitter and Reddit.

The video shows the woman, who was identified as Shiloh Hendrix and faces a boy who accused accused of taking objects from her child's diaper bag. During the exchange, Hendrix is allegedly heard with the N-word in relation to the child. When asked by Omar, who recorded the incident, Hendrix is answered with other inappropriate gestures and seems to be repeated.

After the publication of the video, Hendrix started a fundraising campaign on the Christian crowdfunding website entitled “Helf Me Shaping My Family” and claimed that she was exposed to online nuisance and had to move. The campaign has drawn counter-reactions with reports on comments that express white nationalist and Holocaust destruction feelings, and the request to restrict the public comments on the page.

Jacob Wells, CEO of Givetendgo, said that the platform does not support the personal views of campaign organizers and restricted comments due to their guidelines.

In response to this, the Rochester branch of the NAACP initiated a separate fundraiser to support the family of the five-year-old child who is involved in the incident. The group stated that the child had been described as a slur several times and criticized the support that Hendrix had received. The NAACP campaign collected over 320,000 US dollars by Saturday afternoon.

The city of Rochester published an explanation that described the film material as “deeply disturbing” and confirmed that law enforcement examined the matter.
